New-Form Tools

Project overview

New-Form Tools, a manufacturer specializing in specialty blades and cutting systems, experienced significant growth after establishing operations in Stratford, Ontario. To support this expansion, the company required two additions to its existing facility—one on the east side and one on the west. MTE provided civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering services to support the planning, approval, and construction of both expansions.

Located on a 1.25-hectare site, the first addition on the east side consisted of a 90-foot by 90-foot extension to the existing industrial building, including new parking and drive aisles. This was followed by a larger 21,000-ft² expansion on the west side. Thanks to MTE’s familiarity with the City of Stratford’s approval processes and stakeholders, the necessary municipal approvals were secured efficiently, allowing the project to proceed without delays.

MTE's Involvement

For the east addition, MTE developed the initial site plan, grading and servicing drawings, and architectural design, including building elevations, floor and roof plans, building sections, and construction details. Our structural team completed the foundation and roof framing plans, as well as steel framing elevations. We also provided site inspection services throughout construction to ensure compliance with approved drawings and ultimately certified the site for municipal approval.

In preparation for the west addition, our geotechnical team conducted a subsurface investigation to evaluate soil and groundwater conditions and provide recommendations for foundation design, floor slabs, servicing, and pavement. This was followed by the preparation of a full site plan, grading and servicing design drawings, and a stormwater management report. MTE coordinated the site plan submission and oversaw the approval process.

For the structural component of the west expansion, our team prepared architectural floor plans, building sections, elevations, foundation plans and details, and the roof framing plan. A building code review was also performed to address fire safety and occupancy requirements. As with the east expansion, MTE provided construction-phase site inspections to confirm that the work was completed in accordance with our engineering designs.
