MTE's Involvement
MTE was proud to provide surveying, geotechnical, environmental, civil, and structural engineering services for this large-scale community, on behalf of our client, Activa.
Our team brought together a wide range of technical expertise to address complex environmental and engineering challenges. A major component of the project involved managing sensitive environmental areas, particularly those surrounding Blair Creek—a cold-water stream and one of the last remaining brook trout habitats in the City of Kitchener. The site also encompassed protected wetlands and habitats for endangered species. To ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, we worked closely with local authorities and implemented protective measures to safeguard these valuable natural features.
MTE’s Civil team led the design of site grading, servicing, and drainage, supported by a detailed subwatershed study. Stormwater management was a key focus, resulting in the construction of five integrated stormwater management ponds, a trunk sanitary sewer, and various Low Impact Development (LID) features. We also designed municipal roadways, turning lanes, and roundabouts to support safe and efficient access to the community.
Our Environmental team conducted hydrogeological studies to better understand groundwater conditions related to Blair Creek. These findings guided development decisions, allowing construction to proceed in a way that respected environmental constraints and regional sustainability goals.
Our Geotechnical team carried out extensive soil testing and implemented strategies to address challenging subsurface conditions across the site.
In collaboration with our Civil team, MTE’s Structural group designed the Blair Creek Bridge, which now connects the community while preserving and showcasing the area’s natural surroundings. Structural services also included the design of retaining walls used to protect environmentally sensitive features throughout the site.
Meanwhile, our Survey team supported all stages of the project through accurate and reliable land surveying to guide planning, design, and construction.
