MTE Consultants is proud to be providing civil engineering services for Union Community Housing at Country Squire, the first residential building to break ground as part of BUILD NOW: Waterloo Region—an initiative that is planned to become Canada’s largest affordable housing project.
Located at 2025 University Avenue East in Waterloo, the development will provide 85 permanently affordable rental homes and represents the first phase of a 25-acre mixed-income community. Led by Maxwell Building Consultants and owned and operated by Union Community Housing, the project is a significant milestone in BUILD NOW: Waterloo Region’s goal of delivering 10,000 permanently affordable homes across the region.
As the project’s engineering consultant, MTE is providing civil and geotechnical engineering services, as well as surveying, supporting the design and development of the site and helping lay the foundation for a new community.
The University Avenue East development reflects a collaborative partnership between the City of Waterloo, Union Community Housing, Maxwell Building Consultants and BUILD NOW: Waterloo Region. Supported by the City’s land donation through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund, the project demonstrates how public, private and not-for-profit organizations can work together to address one of the region’s most pressing challenges.
Once complete, the 25-acre community will include a mix of affordable rental and ownership housing, creating an inclusive neighbourhood that expands access to safe, attainable homes while supporting long-term community growth.
