MTE's Involvement
MTE provided geoscience and environmental engineering services for the development of 1 Jarvis, including the completion of a Designated Substances Audit and the preparation of Records of Site Condition to support the project’s redevelopment objectives.
With a focus on sustainability and construction efficiency, MTE recommended and implemented a Cupolex slab venting system as an alternative to a conventional gravel layer beneath the building slab. This innovative approach delivers effective sub-slab ventilation to mitigate potential soil gas intrusion while significantly reducing the volume of raw materials required during construction.
The project team also prioritized minimizing site disturbance by eliminating the need for an underground parking level. This strategy reduced excavation requirements, decreased soil hauling and disposal, and shortened construction timelines. Together, these measures lowered the project’s environmental impact, reduced its carbon footprint, and supported a more sustainable and resource-efficient development.
