Project overview

As part of their Indigenous Strategic Plan to elevate Indigenous voices and agency, Western University is repurposing their distinctive circular library into an all-important Indigenous learning and gathering space. Re-defining the space aims to enhance the feeling of support and safety for Indigenous students and set them up for success in their studies. With its domed roof and rounded walls, the distinct circular library is reflective of Indigenous ways of knowing and how we gather and are all interconnected.

Transformed for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to come together and learn about Indigenous culture and traditions, the centre will have a gathering area, mezzanine and teaching/classroom spaces. The outdoor space will also include a classroom, a ceremonial space and a relocated Indigenous food and medicine garden.
