Geotechnical Laboratory Manager | Geotechnical Engineering

We are currently seeking a Geotechnical Laboratory Manager to join our Geotechnical Division and work out of our Toronto office.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Geotechnical laboratory, including scheduling, workflow, and staff supervision
• Completion of soil and aggregate laboratory testing, including, but not limited to, sieve and hydrometer analyses, Proctor testing, and Atterberg limit determinations
• Review and approve test results and reports before submission to clients or project teams
• Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with expected standards (e.g., MTO, ASTM, CCIL, etc.)
• Summarize and analyze findings from lab testing for written reports
• Maintain inventory of materials and supplies, and coordinate procurement as needed
• Perform occasional construction site reconnaissance/inspections, as required
• Implement and monitor health and safety procedures within the lab environment
• Supervise and train laboratory technicians and junior staff
• Other related duties, as assigned.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Environmental Engineering is preferred
• Working towards C.Tech. or C.E.T. designation is considered an asset
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a geotechnical laboratory setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
• CCIL – Category “0” Concrete Technician is considered an asset
• CCIL – Category “C’ Aggregate technician is considered an asset
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Strong technical writing skills
• Strong skills in MS Office software, including Word and Excel
• Experience with AutoCAD is considered an asset
• Exceptional problem solving skills;
• Strong attention to detail
• Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
• Successful Criminal Records Check which has been completed within 6 months of start date
